Fireproofing is a passive fire protection measure that protects material or structures against fire and helps contain toxic gases to the area of origin by sealing around service penetrations or construction joints in fire-rated walls and floors. Certain walls and floors are required to meet a specific fire resistance rating.Structural fire protection is essential to the fire safety of a building, for saving lives and shielding the building. It prevents building collapse for a period of time in the event of a fire, giving occupant’s time to evacuate and the fire brigade time to extinguish. Ultimately, it reduces the rebuilding costs of a fire-damaged building.

Compartmentalisation prevents the spread of fire and allows time for the fire to be extinguished and provides  evacuation  paths  for  people  in  the  building.  Firestopping  materials  are  used  to  limit  fire spread  through  penetrations  in  a  fire  barrier. It's  common  to  see  a  fire  barrier  penetrated  during  a minor building alteration, and then the penetrating item isn't protected by firestopping. Electricians, plumbers,  communications  engineers,  etc.  can  leave hidden  holes  in  the  barriers  as  they  perform their services. A firestop system is a tested combination of the substrate, penetrating item or items, opening size, annular space and materials used to seal or protect the opening.

Services include:

  • Fire protection of structural steel
  • Firestopping:  Service  penetration  seals  (Ducts,  Piping,  Cable  trays);  Calcium  silicate fireboards and Vermiculite plaster applications.

For  assistance  in  any  passive  fire  protection  requirements  in  commercial,  residential  or industrial  environments,  please  contact  Niel  van  Graan  to  design  and  implement  the  ideal fireproofing solution to suit your standards and budget.

FireSure Maintenance

FireSure offers maintenance and support services tailored to our customer’s needs. Although this concept is still very new to some in the Fire Protection Industry, it brings a definite value proposition to the challenge of managing Fire Protection Assets without the investment in dedicated resources.

Whip Fire projects understands the importance for business to protect their staff, business operations and assets in the case of a disaster and is mindful of the fine balance required in minimising costs on managing and maintaining an asset that does not generate revenue. Fire protection is generally seen as a grudge purchase and Whip Fire Projects aims to minimise the effort of managing these assets, leaving you time to concentrate on your core business.

Whip Fire has structured our maintenance offering to suit multiple installation types and configurations, thus optimising your spend to suit your environment. The maintenance cost comprises a base fee for establishing and delivering a general maintenance service.
