About Whip Fire Projects

The Company was started in September 1981, as the partnership between Ivan van Graan & Billy Sterrenberg operating as Whip Engineering Enterprises in Reed Street, Bellville were joined by Bill Stevens and formed Whip Fire Protection Services (Pty) Ltd.

Shortly after the establishment of Whip Fire Protection Services (Pty) Ltd we relocated to Boompies Street in Parow East, November 1982.

The Company rapidly grew to be one of the leaders in the Sprinkler Fire Protection Industry in the Western Cape and in the early days successfully completed six contracts at the Rossing Uranium Mine in Namibia. The next major contract was the Telkom Building in Durban Road, Bellville (3 500 sprinklers) followed by Metropolitan Life Head Office at Parc Du Cap, Bellville (2 000 sprinklers). One of our biggest contracts was the Sanlam Head Office Project where the first phase was won on tender and four subsequent phases were negotiated. Total 15 sets of control valves. More recently we installed 19 Special Risk Installations – Foam Deluge, High Velocity Spray systems and Transformer Protection at the Saldanha Steel Factory.

In July 1997 for logistical and practical reasons, the Company was restructured and changed the name to Whip Fire cc and awarded SUPERVISING INSTALLER status by ASIB. This is due to the high standard of design, interpretation of the rules and installation work as dictated by ASIB. Whip Fire cc. operated as such until November 2010.

The company was again restructured in November 2010 after the retirement of founder member Billy Sterrenberg, Alan Watt joined us and implemented sweeping changes in the administration and operation of the company. Whip Fire cc and Whip Engineering cc have amalgamated to form Whip Fire Projects (Pty) LTD.

In the years to come we recognised various opportunities in the fire protection industry that required attention and the know-how that only Whip Fire could offer. Whip Fire established a construction / installation division, that handles all our site works, and employ our own assembly staff. All full time employees, no subcontractors. This division is fully equipped with access machinery, scissor lift and boom lift.Soon after a special division was launched focussing on all small works in fire protection, giving clients swift service. With several fully equipped service vehicles.

In 2012 Whip Fire saw another opportunity resulting in Whip Fire Detection and gas suppression division being born, followed by Whip Fire Proofing services in 2015. Whip Fire Projects grew rapidly and in 2014 the Boompies Street premises were outgrown…our home for nearly 32 years.

Looking to the future and the great perseverance the company has shown, it was decided to obtain our own premises wherein the company can grow to its fullest potential. We acquired 33 Industria Street Brackenfell, which we have renovated and extended to suit our needs, we are excited by the endless possibilities the new environment has in store for us. With many large projects in the pipeline, we have found it necessary to expand our employee family and resources to uphold the high standard of workmanship and to stay ahead in fire protection industry. We offer all our employees the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills to achieve their full potential!
